History of the Flora-Bama

1962
The Tampary family envisioned a lounge & package store for the new state line.


1963
Alabama completes the Perdido Pass Bridge, securing the western 2 miles of the Key 
from Florida.


1964 (spring)
A fire consumes the Flora-Bama® at the newly established state line the day
before opening.




1964 (October)
Theodore Tampary with sons, Tony and Connie, officially open the Flora-Bama®.


1978 (April)
Joe Gilchrist buys the Flora-Bama®


1984 (October)
Pat McClellan joins Joe as partner and Vice President.



2004 (September)

Hurricane Ivan damages main building of Flora-Bama®




2005 (April)
Main building is demolished in “No Tears In Our Beer” Demolition Party and
Flora-Bama® reopens with the deck and top deck areas.




2011
The McInnis Family joins the Flora-Bama ownership group

Deck and Top Deck area are rebuilt and expanded




2012 (Spring)

The Main Bar is restored in 68 days
